My husbands review:I was looking for an expandable pack which would also fit under the plane seat and this fits the bill. I used this for our trip to Europe as well as a recent South America trip and a couple more domestic trips. Unexpanded, Spirit airlines has no issue and yet, there’s a lot I can store in the 35L normal mode. So no need to pay carryon fees. When expanded, it starts looking like a 20” carryon on your back, or like an Uber eats backpack. Big.Laptop pocket is great with a sleeve for papers. Have to keep reminding myself not to drop the pack hard because there is hardly any bottom padding and that could impact your laptop durability.Front zippered section is most useful for all our cables, snacks etc with a mesh pocket divider and short pockets for business cards, pens etc. water bottle would go here too because that the one main omission, hence 4 stars. A carabiner attached to the buckle is the only way I’ve found. The middle zipper has the cooler feature, the expansion: in normal mode, I would say you get about an inch to two of depth, good for laptop chargers, travel meds, a travel shirt and or other personal items. But obviously, bulky items in the middle will push against the front and back laptop compartments. So flat-packing works best, especially to get onto the plane and store at your feet.Expanded, this section adds 3-4 inches of depth and the mesh makes it like a huge packing cube. This is overnight territory and perhaps 2-days worth of business travel basics (though a pair of shoes here would take up most of the space). The convenience for me was one bag to carry for an overnight hotel without checking out the luggage and with my work laptop, it was manageable. The hand carry strap is padded which helps with comfort but can be a bit unbalanced depending on how you load it. Another slim zippered mesh pocket is useful, on the other side of the interior pocket. So far, quality is dependable and practical for my travel needs, as I found this to be more organizable than my Longchamp bag where I can’t find anything without a flashlight and packing cubes. The price was right and glad I bought the 35L to start with. The 45L would have been too big for me or overhead bin/check in only, given the way I pack. The compression straps are decent. There are 2-3 front zippered pockets but I’ve found that anything other than napkins and other flat objects will stretch out the pockets.Back straps are good too, mildly comfortable even as I’ve had this pack at up to 20lbs ( the occasional bottle of wine in the front pocket, picked up during sightseeing tours).Zippers are not the newer type but pretty good.Another star would be awarded for an easy way to hang a water bottle/canteen or a mesh expanded pocket for a Yeti. One note, not rain proof. But I now travel with 5/10/20L dry bags for the laptops and clothes, electronics- a minor weight impact for keeping things dry and keeping things organized. We used this bag for a 9 day trip to Colorado. Used it as a carryon. Bag is very sturdy for being a Canvas bag. We were able to back 6 days worth of clothes and some extras in the bag . Definitely worth the moneyI agonized over this purchase, but ultimately I am quite happy that I chose this bag. I wanted a bag that would let me pack for a weekend trip (I’m not generally one to pack very light) but that could also work as a good carryon on a longer trip. I’m using it for the first time right now. Going away for the weekend, and the bag met my goal of letting me fit everything so I could freely leave my seat in Amtrak coach and go to the observation car without leaving anything at my seat. I fit clothes for the weekend (in early November in the north, so it can handle multiple layers with of clothes. I also fit my laptop, a book, snacks, a large set of headphones, and more. Bag also looks good and the zippers seem sturdy. I like that the main pocket opens up like a suitcase. The large expansion let me pack for this trip, and when I take it on a plane with less inside, I will be able to collapse it for easier carrying and I am confident it will fit under the plane seat. So overall, a VERY good bag so far. With that said, I have 4 things I would like to change, but they are fairly minor. But together they bump an otherwise 5-star bag to 4.1) the straps aren’t all that padded. They aren’t bad, but could be better.2) I wish the backpack straps could be stored away instead of always being out. The bag does have a strap to go aroun the handle of rolling luggage. If the backpack straps just had clips at the bottom, as I saw on some other bags I considered, the straps could be tucked under that luggage strap.3) nowhere to put a water bottle. I ended up just putting it in my coat pocket, but it would be nice if there was a spot for at least one on the bag. If I had packed just a little lighter, I could have fit one inside, but an outside pouch would be a welcome feature.4) the usb charging port doesn’t work with my phone. I bought a new, large-capacity power bank to use with this bag from Jackery. The bag has an built-in internal usb cable that plugs into the power bank and then connects to a port on the outside of the bag. I connnected the power bank and then plugged my iPhone 6s (I think) into the external port. My phone initially showed as charging, but then a box popped up saying that “this device may not be supported” and then it stopped charging. I took the power bank out of the bag and plugged into it directly and it is charging fine. So obviously the problem is with the bag. Not a huge deal, but annoying that this feature doesn’t work. One more thing to put back in the bag when I go back to my coach seat.Overall—a great bag. A few improvements would make it perfect.I really wish they could have left out the front compartment, and made it so that when you opened it into the two halves, one half would have the laptop compartment and the other half was for your clothes. Unfortunately, the luggage compartment is on the same half as your laptop, and the other half is just another big (imo unnecessary) pocket. If you stuff the luggage compartment and try to compress it, you basically can't fit anything else into the laptop pocket except a laptop. It's also super hard to zip it up if you overfill it; the material doesn't stretch enough to let you zip easily. This really limits the amount of clothes you can pack. I don't really keep anything in the other half either, so this feels like wasted space.I searched for a bag that was a backpack but also expanded and while I found others, they were huge (and twice the price). Figured I would try this and have been impressed. I use it as my “briefcase” when traveling, it holds everything I might need in a day from a laptop, all my cords plus other items I’ve learned to carry when traveling, like a first aid kit, extra jacket (its a long list). This holds them all and with the expansion, can easily take an extra pair of shoes or your liquids for easy access at security. There are some improvements I’d love to see in the future. It has very basic organization in the front pocket, more compartments to organize things would be great. The material is also rigid, which is good in the bustle of an overhead compartment, but makes it a bit uncomfortable as a backpack (but might break in as I go). Glad I found it.Just as I needed. Spacious but professional looking. Can fit work laptop and docs and all the gym and swim gear including shoes and towelPour voyage avion
